Tan in a Can?

Posted in Actors/Comedians, Beauty, Tanning with tags , , , on May 4, 2009 by shapach

Well, not in a can exactly, although they do exist as well. L’Oreal Sublime Bronze is actually a tinted self-tanning lotion (also available in gelee form) that comes in a squeezable tube, and comes in three shades to match skin tones: Light, Medium, and Deep.

I prefer the Deep shade since I have an olive skin tone and a base tan. If you are an avid tanner, like me, and want the darkest and most immediate bronze shade as possible, this the best shade for you. Although I have not tried the lighter shades, I’m sure they work just as well to give a natural looking shade enhancement.

The active ingredient that is responsible for the instant bronze tint is AHA, or sublime-eva1alpha hydroxy acid. This is the similar tanning agent found in most spray tans and bronzing lotions. Once applied, you will see a noticeable bronze tint, complete with golden flecks of sparkle that add to the illuminosity of the skin (very pretty!) Within an hour, your golden tan will have developed. With repeated use, you may never need to step into the sun again. (Although I like to layer this product over a UV-based tan or spray tan to really enhance the effect!! I’m talking “Dancing-with-the-Stars-dark” Oh yeah!)

Although it is marketed as a quick-dry formula, both the gelee and the lotion take about 10-15 minutes to dry if applied generously. And the newest version claims to be transfer-proof and water-resistant, but will rub off slightly if not dry ALL THE WAY before putting clothes on. Use sparingly around knees, elbows and ankles and wash hands after application. Also containing Viatmin E, the product is super hydrating much like a daily moisturizer, so no need to use both.

So besides having to stand nude in front of the fan for quite some time, I have found this product to be the best on the market to help achieve the darkest, streak-free, golden brown tan. Hey, for these results, that a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

One Question…WHY?

Posted in Actors/Comedians, Designers, Fashion, Singers/Performers with tags , , , , , , , on May 4, 2009 by shapach

Please DO NOT commit these fashion faux-pas:

1. Solid colored suspenders are okay, but unless you are trying to look like Mork the Dork…NO MULTI-COLORED SUSPENDERS!

2. Wide-framed nerd glasses are a no-no. If Scarlett Johansson can’t even make these look good, forget about it!

3. I understand innovation and creativity in shoe design, but Marc Jacobs SS08 reverse-heel shoes were just plain ugly and weird. Not very comfortable either, I presume.

4. They were supposed to be a very fleeting phase, but to my dismay brands like Ed Hardy and Abercrombie are still proliferating the atrocity that is the Trucker Hat. FYI: If Paris wears it, you know it’s bad!

5.  The 90’s called and they want their cut-off shorts back! Don’t you celebs have enough money to get over this budget-friendly trend?

H is for Hottie!

Miss Hilary Swank, the darling of the red carpet, is no stranger to being hot and sexy. With numerous steamy fashion editorials, a plethora of hot numbers worn at various award shows, and the killer bod to prove it, there is no denying the girl is bad!

Since splitting with nerdy hubby Chad Lowe, the hotness factor of Swank has increased thrice-fold.

Who Watches the WATCHMEN?

Graphic novels that are subsequently made into blockbuster movies, such as WATCHMEN and SIN CITY, are completely mesmerizing and totally gory all at the same time. Needless to say, when I went and saw WATCHMEN on Friday, I was utterly fascinated. Although the entire movie ran tediously long, at 2 hours and 45 minutes, every scene managed to be a culmination of the last.  Director Zack Snyder, who also directed 300, was a perfect match for this genre of film and helped to make the movie all the more intense.

The original “minutemen” consisted of (L-R) Silhouette, Mothman, Dollar Bill, Nite Owl, Captain Metropolis, The Comedian (kneeling), Silk Spectre, and Hooded Justice. The novel tells the history of the rise and fall of a group of masked vigilante superheroes as they come together to fight the injustice in the world, and what happens after their “kind” is banned. So, to make sense of the character development, the makers of this movie had a task on their hands.  As each lead character lives in a unique universe that must be thoroughly fleshed out, the devil is truly in the details.

The astonishing costumes for WATCHMEN were designed by Michael Wilkinson, with the latex designs being fabricated by L.A. based Syren Couture. I also was in love with the gold, winged and geometric, 80’s style earrings worn by a few of the female characters, such as Laurie and Veidt’s assistant.

Overall, this movie is one film that is not to be missed, although, now I’m wishing I would have seen it in IMAX. Can you imagine a better movie to see in IMAX? Especially the scene with Laurie and Dan making love inside their futuristic rocket, with a view of the full moon out the window. HOT!

This film truly has something for everyone, so even if superheroes and action-packed violence is not your thing, it’s sure to entice the senses. GO SEE IT!

(P.S. I shall henceforth be known as Satyn Spectre – you love it, don’t you?!)

Mannequins Put Actors Out of Work

Now I know we are in a recession and all, but it becomes apparent that times are really dire when even bargain-buy places like OLD NAVY have to abandon their showy, song-and-dance commercials, filled with actors and extras, for a much more cost-efficient concept. I can’t decide if it’s thrifty, or just cheesy and cheap. Either way, the SuperModelquins are growing on me.

Best Supporting Actress nominee Amy Adams typically looks exceptional, but this year all I saw was the exquisite Fred Leighton necklace; the rest of her, including her Carolina Herrera dress, just kind of blended in with carpet.
